I manually filled the system to 25 psi and it seemed to purge after that, I filled the system after purging to 25 psi to see if that helps, maybe I needed more water in the system, but it happened again today, and the expansion tank is more active than before, so I guess there is ore water than it needs. I had the hardest time to purge the air out and get circulation in the zone. My Boiler pressure is around 20 lbs, its a Weil Mclain 468 with the old style ceilng expansion tank, I give up !!! In most cases, you’ll need to completely replace this valve. If it’s wet, this is the source of your leak. Wipe a paper towel on the bottom of the downtube. I installed last year on the same zone near the boiler a Spirotherm air eliminator but it never seemed to work, it was a used one from a neighbors heating system, and I never heard anything purge or hiss from this inline Spirotherm valve. Typically, this is a brass valve mounted near the top of a hot water tank with a pipe coming down to about 6 inches off the ground. purge valve in the cellar which is above the circulators, the circs ae on the return line, it seems to always get air pockets ! I have to purge the air from the Thrush Co. It was working ok before I installed this Spirotop, there are no leaks, my system is ok on the other zones. Ideally, it should be connected directly to the soil pipe.) If the leaking overflow pipe is at loft level or sticks out from the eaves of the roof, then the source is either the cold water storage cistern, or the smaller feed and expansion cistern that supplies the boiler, if you have one. I just installed 3 days ago in the highest point a SpiroTop air purge valve, it seems to work, I do hear the air releasing, the reason I installed this valve is to get rid of the waterfall sound in the pipes when heat is circulating. This pipe should terminate in a gully below the leaf guard. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. It leaks out a few times a Press J to jump to the feed. Normally, replacing a water heater should be done by a professional but if you’re a DIYer, you can do it yourself. However, excessive amounts of hot water overflowing from your PTR valve can be a sign. Use the isolation valve (see step 3 above) to turn the flow of water down. It is normal for PTR valves to leak slightly during water heating cycles. A leaking tank is an obvious sign of a water heater (see also ‘Why A Water Heater Leaks From The Overflow Pipe (Explained)‘) needing to be replaced. The overflow pipe could be leaking because the pressure of the water coming into the tank is too high. The 2nd floor zone keeps getting cold and I have to purge the air out of the zone over again each day to keep it heating. The tank from our water heater has an overflow pipe that runs down into our garage, and will reach out onto the floor. The best solution for this problem is to replace the tank with a new unit. I have a closed loop forced hot water heating system with four zones.
